Malaysia current account surplus rose to 12.2 MYR billion in the fourth quarter of 2016 from 10.6 MYR billion in the same quarter of 2015. It was the highest surplus since the second quarter 2014, mainly supported by a higher goods surplus (31.4 MYR billion from 31.1 MYR billion in the fourth quarter of the prior year). In addition, services account posted a 6 MYR billion deficit, narrowing from a 6.4 MYR billion gap in the same period 2015. The balance of primary income registered a 9 MYR billion deficit, compared to a 9.1 MYR billion gap in the fourth quarter 2015. Secondary income account was also in deficit (-4 MYR billion from -5 MYR billion). Considering the full year 2016 current account surplus narrowed to 25.2 MYR billion from 34.7 MYR billion in the same period of 2015. Current Account in Malaysia averaged 15848.83 MYR Million from 1999 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 39982 MYR Million in the third quarter of 2008 and a record low of 978 MYR Million in the second quarter of 2013.
