Retail sales in Slovenia surged by 15.4 percent year-on-year in January 2017, following a 10.1 percent gain in the previous month. It was the strongest increase since May 2008, driven by sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores (43.6 percent from 34.3 percent in December) and food, beverages, tobacco (1.4 percent from -1 percent). Meanwhile, non-food products sales rose at a slower pace (6 percent from 8 percent in December). Excluding automotive fuel, retail trade advanced 4 percent (2.9 percent in December). On a monthly basis, retail sales went up 3.2 percent. Retail Sales YoY in Slovenia averaged 2.49 percent from 2001 until 2017, reaching an all time high of 20.20 percent in May of 2008 and a record low of -17.30 percent in September of 2009.
