Spain Tourist Arrivals

The number of tourist arrivals in Spain went up 10.7 percent year-on-year to 3.904 million in January of 2017. The increase was mainly driven by tourists from the UK (15 percent year-on-year to 796 thousand) and Germany (3.5 percent to 485 thousand) while those from France fell 0.6 percent to 469 thousand. Increases were also seen in tourists from America (52.6 percent), the US (34.9 percent) and Ireland (23.4 percent). Canarias was the main destination (30.6 percent of total arrivals), followed by Cataluña (21.8 percent) and Andalucía (13.3 percent). The tourism sector accounts for around 15 percent of the Spanish GDP. Tourist Arrivals in Spain averaged 4421.07 from 1995 until 2017, reaching an all time high of 10104.27 in August of 2016 and a record low of 1397.41 in January of 1995.
