The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Taiwan increased slightly to 3.84 percent in January of 2017, following an upwardly revised 3.83 percent in December. On an unadjusted basis, unemployment rate fell to 3.78 percent from 3.87 percent in the same month a year earlier. The number of unemployed decreased by 8,000 to 445,000 compared to January 2016 while the number of employed persons were up by 76,000 to 11,320,000. Labor force participation rate was at 58.79 percent, up 0.09 percentage points from the same month of the prior year. Youth unemployment rose to 12.01 percent in January from 11.95 percent in the same month a year earlier. Total labour force was 11,765,000, up from 11,697.000 in January 2016.
